Who is behind this. And why we built it.
PROVUS exists because the systems that mediate education, careers, and personal development have, for two decades, been built on the wrong incentives. This page is a short, honest account of what we're doing about that.
The problem we kept seeing.
The people we know who work in universities, TAFEs, professional bodies, and government — the institutions that have spent decades earning their reputations — are increasingly being pushed onto platforms that don't share their values. Marketplaces that rank their advisers next to anyone. Discovery surfaces driven by who paid for placement. Algorithmic "matching" that no one inside the institution can explain.
The students we know are dealing with the consequence: an overwhelming, untrustworthy commons where every option looks plausible and nothing is actually governed by anyone they can hold accountable.
Meanwhile, the advisers themselves — the career counsellors, educators, mentors, coaches, wellbeing professionals doing the work — have been turned into profile pages competing for attention.
PROVUS is a refusal of that. It is a platform built on the assumption that governance is a feature, not a constraint — and that students, advisers, and institutions all benefit when reputation is earned through specific, traceable, named decisions rather than aggregated stars and algorithmic placement.
Why governance, not growth.
The standard playbook for a platform like PROVUS would be to launch with as much breadth as possible, optimise for engagement, and grow through whatever attention-economy levers work. We're not doing that.
Instead, we're starting with a small number of institutions that are ready to govern their visibility properly, and growing only as more institutions are ready to do the same. This will make PROVUS small at launch. It will also make it real — because by the time you see a program or adviser on PROVUS, you'll know exactly who stood behind that decision and when.
The slow path is not a marketing position. It's a structural one. Reputation systems break when they grow faster than the institutions can govern. We're choosing not to break.
How PROVUS governs itself.
The platform asks institutions to be auditable, traceable, and explicit. We hold ourselves to the same standards. Below, four specific commitments about how we run PROVUS itself.
An external advisory group
Before launch, PROVUS will be reviewed by an independent advisory group — practitioners from education, careers, and governance — whose names and credentials will be published. Their feedback will be made public.
A public change log
Every meaningful change to PROVUS — including changes to these principles — will be recorded in a public change log with the date, the reason, and who authorised it. No quiet revisions.
An annual governance report
Once a year, PROVUS will publish a public report covering how the platform was used, what went wrong, what we changed, and what we got wrong. Audited by a named third party.
Sunset clauses on the platform itself
If PROVUS is ever sold, restructured, or repositioned in a way that compromises these principles, the platform itself has built-in mechanisms for institutions to withdraw cleanly with their data and audit trails intact.
How to pronounce PROVUS.
Two syllables. The stress falls on the first. The "PRO" is long, like "pro" in "proper" or "professional." The "vus" is short and unstressed — closer to "vuss" than "vooss."
PROVUS comes from the Latin provus, meaning "trustworthy," "approved," "tested." The "-us" ending is intentional — it's a noun, not an acronym.
The people behind PROVUS.
A small team based in Brisbane, with collaborators across Australia and beyond. We'll publish names, roles, and backgrounds before launch.
Names and bios coming soon. Once the founding team and advisory group are finalised, this section will list each person with their role, a short bio, and (where they're comfortable) a photo. We want this to be a humanising surface, not a corporate "leadership team" page.
Brisbane. Australian by design.
PROVUS is built in Brisbane, Queensland. We're Australian by intent — built for the institutional, regulatory, and cultural context of Australian education, careers, and personal development, with the aspiration to be useful elsewhere where the same problems apply.
This matters because most platforms in this space are built for the US or UK market and shoehorned into Australia. PROVUS is the other way around: built for here first, designed in a way that translates.
